New York City Buildings

New York City buildings at night-
In darkness
Phony light rings on through
Out the ears
Into years
Many never leave here you see
Tears, fears, and all our cares
They linger everywhere-

New York City buildings late at night-
In sun-rising darkness
We throw our memories
And our vices crumpled together
Into a chute
Falling like dying stars
Into nothing-
Nothing full of something
Still hiding behind a cold closed door-

Except in morning
When the birds are chirping and soaring
But I'm so far from that
As I walk across the street
To meet
To greet
The fleeting visions of reality
New York City buildings in sunlight-
In rain-
New York City buildings in raining sunlight-

The cage closes in New York City buildings
The shaft stands in solitude
Climbing slowly in altitude
But I'm not in the mood
Not today
And I don't mean to be rude
But I need to be soothed
By the smells of the long hallway
As the door opens
Tokens of your beauty-
Beauty tokens
Like dried flowers
In water
Standing as towers-

All alone
The old man
Plays on and on
In New York City buildings in afternoon-
Soon
The tune
Is not immune
To the setting of the sun
Everyone on the run
Street music closed by the window-

Outside always opened
By someone else's hands
Walk up the street
Through the magazine stands
Catching glimpses of so many
Shoes
Tapping down marks
Question marked
Clues
Now I'm being roused
Into battle my dear lord
I've got my armor
I've got my sword
I think I'll be okay
As I go away
Walking out of New York City buildings in the snow-

When the phone rings
And the plane brings-
Brings me on home
I will remember always where I roam
Cause New York City-
And all her buildings
Can make you feel warm and downy
And they can knock you out into the night
A never-ending flight
A never-ending plight-

New York City buildings in darkness
New York City buildings in light
New York City buildings in all their might
New York City buildings what a sight
New York City buildings-
They feel all right?
