I'd Love to Soar

I'd love to soar like an eagle
over mountains, down in valleys,
across clear lakes, with keen eyes
viewing the magnificent earth.
To set perched in a huge nest
caring for my young and delighting
in their movements and readiness
to fly with me on journeys.

To float and dip amongst the clouds
and watch animals as they creep
across grassy meadows and to seek
out a fish in a lake or small
animal to catch for a meal.
To be the eye and the ruler
of the birds of the forest.

To flap my mighty wings,
showing a large breast and
piercing black eyes and a beak
sharper than a razor. To show off
the whiteness of a proud head and
colorful feathers on my body.

I'd like to soar, to soar, just once
with the eagle and to feel
the gracefulness it portrays
to the world.
